Teaching Philosophy March 2020

As an aspiring educator, I believe that the environment children learn in plays a vital role in their development. My goal as an educator is to provide an environment that is engaging, safe, and allows children to express themselves and embrace the differences of others. In previous placement experiences, I have had the opportunity to observe how the classroom environment can dramatically change the way children engage in learning experiences and develop their skills. Therefore, I will create an atmosphere that supports community unity and ensures children feel comfortable expressing themselves to their peers and myself without judgement. In doing so, children will feel a sense of belonging and inclusivity within the learning environment. I also believe that families are just as important as educators when it comes to their child’s learning, development and well-being. During  my time in the field I have  developed an understanding regarding the importance of collaboration with families and other professionals to support student success and development. Specifically,  I’ve noticed when professionals lack collaboration with colleagues and families, children are less successful in their learning and lack a sense of belonging within the environment. Thus, I strive to work alongside other professionals and caregivers to ensure all supports and interventions are provided and in place for children to excel within the classroom and at home. In doing so, caregivers are a part of their child’s learning, feel a sense of belonging, and can provide additional support to  ensure their child is given the same opportunities as others in terms of development.  Further, my experiences in inner city schools have provided me with insight regarding the importance of mental health and wellness in youth, specifically the act of supporting children’s mental health and development through implementation and learning experiences. Hence, I will provide children with opportunities to explore mindfulness. Specifically, I will implement breathing breaks and meditation into my curriculum and daily practice to ensure children have a moment to de compress.

Teaching Philosophy September 2021

I believe all students are capable and competent learners when provided with an atmosphere that supports and facilitates growth, embraces the differences of others, and provides students with a safe space to be themselves. Providing students with opportunities to learn in a variety of ways is something I take into consideration as learners are unique and differentiation is key when it comes to teaching the young minds of today as learning styles differ. When thinking about my classroom community I would like to create a space where students feel comfortable and confident in sharing their ideas, expressing themselves, and becoming the leaders of their own learning.
